A
few weeks ago my curiosity got the better of me and I found myself
hovering around the foundation display at the Giorgio Armani concession
in Selfridges in London. To be specific, it was the Luminous Silk Foundation. I’ve
heard nothing but incessant chattering about this base on the social
media grapevine and surprisingly, not a bad word so my hopes were high.
I picked out shade 9 – Natural Suede – and the sales assistant
admitted my choice was correct for the other neighbouring shades (8 and
8.5) were either too light or too pink for my skin tone. Shade 10 was
way too dark so I settled on 9. This time I wasn’t going to make the
same mistake I did when I bought Chanel’s Perfection Lumière on the spot
(I know, I know, slap me!) so the assistant kindly gave me a generous
sample to try. It’s this sample that led me to purchase the foundation
and I have to admit, I couldn’t wait to get hold of it the moment my
sample finished.
Silk Luminous Foundation comes in an impressive 21 shades and is has
been developed with a Micro–fil™ technology, for a weightless, silky
texture for all skin types. It’s an oil–free hydrating fluid offering
medium coverage though it can be layered on. It really does give a silk
finish, dewy and seamless, recreating a natural glow and effectively,
youthful looking skin.
The foundation is dispensed through a pump-action bottle (a
beautifully designed bottle might I add). Even the little Giorgio Armani
logo adds a pretty touch to it. Just a few small pumps gives ample
coverage and it blends quickly and effortlessly with fingers or a brush.
I wouldn’t bother with a sponge – that bitch sucks up liquid like no
tomorrow and you don’t want it to absorb a high-end foundation so avoid.
It does feel like I’m not wearing anything, the coverage is
long-lasting and I am pleasantly surprised with the flawless finish. For
a runny fluid, it performs superbly as I’m usually a fan of gel-like
formulas.
The shade possibly looks slightly darker to my natural skin tone but I
am not going to invest in a lighter shade to counter balance – I’m not
that pedantic and it’s too much effort to mix foundations. Besides, it’s
barely noticeable. As far as designer foundations go, Luminous Silk
Foundation is definitely not a case of style over substance, I’m
relieved to say.
This foundation retails for £34 from House of Fraser, £34.50 in
Selfridges, John Lewis and from Giorgio Armani directly but Harrods are a
bit stuck up by rounding it up to £35 (and yes, I bought mine from the
Knightsbridge corner shop.) My usual foundation costs £27 so this one is
just a tad more although I don’t have any issues with that as it ticks
all the boxes for me.
Have you tried Luminous Silk Foundation? I’d love to know your thoughts if you would fork out a little more for it.
